In the southern part of Navarra (ES) we visited Las Bardenas Reales: a semi-desert, unique in its kind in Europe. Thousands of years of continuous erosion shaped an almost surreal landscape of rock formations, narrow gorges and plains covered with rough vegetation. Walking this desert, one feels like stepping into an old western, being overlooked by eagles and vultures who circle the air looking for prey. At the fringe of the Bardenas, small villages clinch to the overshadowing rocks. Here, man-made structures seemingly blend in with the color, dust and desolation of the adjacent desert.
